Revesby Abbey Ghost Hunts

Once the stately home of Lady Beryl Groves, Revesby Abbey feels as if it is isolated from the rest of the world in its 10 acres of land. This grade I listed building dates back to 1845 and was abandoned in 1968.

The very first building on this site, also known as Revesby Abbey, was a Cistercian Monastery. Monks from the Rievaulx Abbey in Yorkshire were the first to inhabit Revesby, led by Saint Aelred.

The Abbots became very poor at managing Revesby Abbey and so in 1538, the Duke of Norfolk wrote to Thomas Cromwell to inform him that the Abbey was in ‘great ruin and decay’ and so it was destroyed as were so many other’s under the rule of King Henry VIII.

The current Abbey is the third building to be called Revesby Abbey and was designed by the renowned Scottish architect, William Burn in 1843 and the building was completed in 1845. The Abbey is built in Jacobean style and stands proudly out of site, tucked away in it’s 10 acres of medieval deer park.

Ghost hunts at Revesby Abbey can be one of the most terrifying experiences as we go deep into the building’s vast basements and its endless maze of dark corridors. Countless reports of disembodied voices, people being touched and grabbed by unseen hands, dark figures moving towards people, bangs, loud footsteps, whistling and even doors opening and closing of their own accord are all common occurrence at Revesby Abbey.
